〆Drydel Orders 66,000 DWT Ultramax to Tsuneishi Shipbuilding

Drydel announced via LinkedIn that it has ordered an environmentally friendly 66,000 deadweight tonnage Ultramax, the “TESS66 AEROLINE,” to Tsuneishi Shipbuilding. The new building is scheduled for completion within 2028. Drydel currently has three 64,000 DWT bulk carriers on order to Tsuneishi Shipbuilding. This is the first time Drydel has decided to commission a 66,000 DWT vessel.

Drydel explained the new build on LinkedIn: “This is a significant new investment in Ultramax, built by a Japanese shipyard. The new ship will feature a unique design with a width of 32 meters and a deadweight tonnage of 66,000.”

The new ship is an eco-ship that has already met the new ship fuel efficiency regulation “EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Index) Phase 3,” which will come into effect in 2025, ahead of schedule, thanks to the wind resistance reduction technology “Aero Line.”

As of June 2024, Drydel has nine ships on order to Japanese shipyards. The ship-owning company Costas Bulk owns 13 small and medium-sized bulk carriers. In addition to ship ownership, Drydel operates in Singapore, Dubai, and Brazil, chartering 35 small and medium-sized bulk carriers on long-term leases.

In February of this year, Drydel changed its name from Medway Shipping. Before this, in December 2022, it placed its first order with Tsuneishi Shipbuilding for a 64,000-ton bulk carrier with a delivery date of 2025. Last May, it placed an additional order for two ships with a delivery date of 2026.
