NYK Line announced for the first time a separate disclosure of information regarding its automotive business, forecasting an annual profit of 120 billion yen for this segment.
On August 5, 2024, NYK Line released its consolidated financial results for the April-June 2024 quarter. Benefiting from a rise in short-term freight rates for container ships due to the situation in the Red Sea, NYK Line’s ordinary profit saw a significant increase of 41% year-on-year, reaching 125.7 billion yen. The company also disclosed its segment-specific ordinary profit forecast for the first time for the fiscal year ending March 2025, revealing that the automotive business is expected to achieve a 13% increase over the previous year, reaching 120 billion yen. This is the first time the company has published financial results for its automotive division.
With NYK’s announcement, the consolidated financial results for the April-June 2024 quarter of the three major shipping companies are now available. Mitsui O.S.K. Lines reported a 20% year-on-year increase in ordinary profit, amounting to 108.6 billion yen, while Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha achieved a 59% increase, with an ordinary profit of 74.8 billion yen, both achieving significant profit growth.

日本郵船は２０２４年８月５日、２０２４年４―６月期の連結業績を発表した。日本郵船の業績は、紅海情勢に起因するコンテナ船の短期運賃市況上昇を受けて、経常利益（ordinary profit）は前年同期比41％増の１２５７億円と大幅な増益だった。また、２０25年３月期の通期連結業績予想のセグメント別の経常利益予想を初めて開示し、自動車事業が前期比13％増の１２００億円を見込むことを明らかにした。同社が自動車事業の収支を公表するのは今回が初めて。
郵船の発表があったので、海運大手３社の２０24年４―６月期連結業績が出そろった。商船三井の経常利益は前年同期比20％増の１０８６億円、川崎汽船の経常利益は59％増の７４８億円といずれも大幅増益を達成した
