On September 25, 2024, MOL Cruises, Ltd., part of the Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Group, held a handover ceremony in Yokohama for the luxury cruise ship Seabourn Odyssey (32,477 gross tons), which is operated by Seabourn Cruise Line Limited, a U.S.-based company. The Seabourn Odyssey will be transformed into the luxury-class cruise ship MITSUI OCEAN FUJI, with all guest rooms designed as suite cabins, and is scheduled to begin operations in December 2024.

The ceremony was attended by Captain Kim Roger Karlsson, who will command the MITSUI OCEAN FUJI, and Captain Krasimir Radev of the Seabourn Odyssey, along with senior officers from both ships.
According to Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, the ceremony honored the Seabourn Odyssey’s achievements over nearly 15 years of service since its completion in June 2009, while also celebrating the beginning of a new voyage for the MITSUI OCEAN FUJI.
After completing a 22-day cruise, the Seabourn Odyssey docked at Yokohama Port. Captain Krasimir Radev of the Seabourn Odyssey made the following statement: “Serving as the captain of this beloved cruise ship has been one of the greatest joys of my career. I am honored to have handed over this vessel, which will now embark on new journeys as MITSUI OCEAN FUJ across the vast oceans.”
Captain Kim Roger Karlsson of the MITSUI OCEAN FUJI also commented: “Today is a very special day for MITSUI OCEAN FUJI. As we welcome this beautiful ship into our fleet, I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Seabourn. We promise to deliver the exceptional cruise experience that has been cherished by guests onboard this ship to a new generation of passengers on the MITSUI OCEAN FUJI.”
The Seabourn Odyssey will undergo renovations and is scheduled to begin operations as the MITSUI OCEAN FUJI on December 1, 2024, from Yokohama. With a passenger capacity of 458 and a gross tonnage of 32,477, the MITSUI OCEAN FUJI will be the first ship launched under the new cruise brand “MITSUI OCEAN CRUISES.”
MOL Cruises, Ltd. changed its name from Mitsui O.S.K. Passenger Line Ltd. on August 1, 2023. The company currently operates the cruise ship NIPPON MARU and plans and operates cruises both domestically and internationally. MOL Cruises marked this period as a “second founding” with plans to expand its cruise business, including a new shipbuilding project announced in 2022. The introduction of MITSUI OCEAN FUJI, the second ship, will serve as the start of the new brand “MITSUI OCEAN CRUISES.”
■Seabourn Odyssey
Built by T. Mariotti Shipyard in Italy, the Seabourn Odyssey was completed in June 2009. It is the first vessel of the Seabourn Odyssey class, measuring 198.2 meters in length, 25.6 meters in width, and 6.4 meters in draft. Mitsui O.S.K. Lines purchased the Seabourn Odyssey from Seabourn Cruise Line in March 2023, officially taking delivery of the vessel on March 17, 2023. The Mitsui O.S.K. Group has positioned the cruise business as a new growth sector, and in November 2022, the company announced plans to build two new cruise ships with a capacity of 600 passengers, as part of its cruise business expansion.

商船三井グループの商船三井クルーズ（MOL Cruises, Ltd.）は2024年9月25日、Seabourn Cruise Line Limited.（本社：米国）が運航するラグジュアリー客船シーボーン・オデッセイ（32,477総トン）の引き渡しセレモニーを、シーボーンクルーズ社とともに横浜で実施した。シーボーン・オデッセイは、全客室がスイートキャビンを基本とするラグジュアリークラスのクルーズ船「MITSUI OCEAN FUJI」として生まれ変わり、2024年12月に就航を開始する予定だ。
式典には「MITSUI OCEAN FUJI」の船長キム・ロジャー・カールソン（Kim Roger Karlsson）氏とシーボーン・オデッセイの船長クラシミール・ラデフ（Krasimir Radev）氏が、シニアオフィサーらとともに引き渡しセレモニーに臨んだ。
商船三井（Mitsui O.S.K. Lines）によると、式典ではシーボーン・オデッセイが2009年6月の竣工以来、約15年間の航海で築いてきた功績と、「MITSUI OCEAN FUJI」の新たなる航海の幕開けを祝った。
シーボーン・オデッセイは22日間のクルーズを終え横浜港に寄港した。シーボーン・オデッセイの船長クラシミール・ラデフ氏は次のコメントを発表した。「この愛すべきクルーズ船の船長として務めたことは、私にとってキャリアの中でも大きな喜びでした。このクルーズ船をこれから大海原で新たな航海を始める『MITSUI OCEAN FUJI』に引き渡したことを光栄に思います。」

シーボーン・オデッセイはこの後、改装工事に入り、『MITSUI OCEAN FUJI』として2024年12月1日に横浜で運航を開始する予定だ。船客定員458名、32,477総トンの『MITSUI OCEAN FUJI』は、新クルーズブランド「MITSUI OCEAN CRUISES」の新規投入船となる。
商船三井クルーズ（MOL Cruises, Ltd.）は、商船三井客船（Mitsui O.S.K. Passenger Line Ltd.）から2023年8月1日付で商号を変更した。現在は、クルーズ客船「にっぽん丸」（NIPPON MARU）を保有し、国内外のクルーズを企画、運航している。同社は2022年に発表された新造船計画を含むクルーズ事業拡大計画を契機に、これを「第二の創業」と位置づけた。第2船「MITSUI OCEAN FUJI」の導入を機に新ブランド「MITSUI OCEAN CRUISES」を開始する。
■シーボーン・オデッセイ
イタリアのT. Mariotti造船所で2009年6月に竣工した。シーボーン・オデッセイ級の1番船で、型式は全長198.2m、幅25.6m、喫水6.4mである。商船三井は2023年3月にSeabourn Cruiseからシーボーン・オデッセイを購入し、2023年3月17日に同船の引渡しを受けた。商船三井グループでは、クルーズ事業を新たな成長分野と位置付け、客船事業を拡大するため、2022年11月に2隻の600名定員規模のクルーズ船を新造することを発表した。
