〆The three major Japanese shipping companies, Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK Line), Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line), will receive a combined dividend of approximately 200 billion yen from Ocean Network Express (ONE).

On October 30, 2024, NYK Line, MOL, and K Line announced that they would receive surplus dividends from ONE, the container shipping company in which the three companies hold stakes. The total dividend from ONE to the three companies amounts to USD 1.388 billion (approximately 197.9 billion yen).

The breakdown of the dividend is as follows: NYK Line, which holds a 38% stake, will receive around USD 527 million (about 75.3 billion yen); MOL, with a 31% stake, will receive approximately USD 431 million (about 61.2 billion yen); and K Line, also holding a 31% stake, will receive around USD 430 million (approximately 61.4 billion yen). The three major shipping companies are scheduled to receive these dividends from ONE on November 15, 2024.

Each company will record the dividend from ONE as non-operating income in their individual financial statements for the period from October to December 2024. Since the dividend comes from an equity-method affiliate, there will be no impact on their consolidated financial results as already announced.

ONE, which operates large container vessels, has shown better performance than initially anticipated by the three major shipping companies. As a result, each of the three companies will record equity-method profit from ONE as part of their non-operating income. This equity-method profit has been surpassing initial forecasts, and it is expected that the financial results for the fiscal year ending March 2025 will also exceed initial projections.
