On August 3, 2024, German shipyard Meyer Werft launched the second LNG-powered cruise ship, “Disney Treasure,” under construction for Disney Cruise Line. According to Meyer Werft, the focus will be on the final outfitting of the ship’s interior over the coming weeks. The Disney Treasure, with 1,240 guest cabins and a gross tonnage of 144,000 GT, is equipped with a low-emission LNG propulsion system.
Meyer Werft delivered the sister ship Disney Wish to Disney Cruise Line in 2022, and the third ship, Disney Destiny, is scheduled for delivery in 2025.

In July 2024, Meyer Werft secured an order from Oriental Land Co. (OLC), a Japanese leisure and tourism company, to build a Disney Wish-class cruise ship for the Japanese market. The ship is expected to be delivered in 2028, and OLC, which operates Disney theme parks in Japan, plans to start operating the ship by early 2029.

■Meyer Werft Discusses Reconstruction Plans with the German Government
Meyer Werft has secured shipbuilding contracts until 2028 through agreements with Disney Cruise Line and an additional order for two cruise ships from Carnival Cruise Line. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Germany’s Ministry of Economic Affairs revealed on July 3 that the German government is considering supporting Meyer Werft, one of the world’s largest cruise ship manufacturers.
According to Ralf Schmitz, the head of the reconstruction efforts, Meyer Werft will need to raise approximately 2.7 billion euros over the next few years. This amount consists of 2.3 billion euros in working capital and 400 million euros in equity needed to cover past losses and restructuring costs. During a press conference in Berlin, the spokesperson mentioned that the exact situation would be assessed before any decisions are made. However, the increased costs of cruise ship construction due to the pandemic and the war in Ukraine mean the shipyard must raise over 2.95 billion dollars to finance these projects.
On August 5, 2024, German politicians and business leaders met with the shipyard’s management and labor unions in Papenburg to discuss the shipyard’s reorganization. According to a statement from the shipyard, positive intentions were expressed regarding the funding of operations, which will continue after the summer holidays in Germany.

再建責任者のラルフ・シュミッツ（Ralf Schmitz）によると、マイヤー・ヴェルフトは今後数年間で約27億ユーロを調達する必要がある。この金額は、運転資金23億ユーロと、過去の損失とリストラ費用をカバーするために必要な株式4億ユーロで構成されている。
ベルリンでの記者会見で同省の報道官は、正確な状況は決定が下される前に評価されるだろうと述べた。
しかし、パンデミックとウクライナ戦争に伴うクルーズ船建造費用の増加は、造船所がこれらの造船資金を調達するために29億5000万ドル以上を調達しなければならないことを意味する。
