13 August 2024 – Maruti Suzuki India Limited, one of India’s leading automotive manufacturers, announced today the commencement of exports of its first “Made-in-India” SUV, the Fronx, to Japan. The Fronx is set to become the first SUV from Maruti Suzuki to be launched in the Japanese market.
According to the company, this significant milestone celebrates the spirit of the “Make in India” initiative and resonates with a sense of Indian pride. The Fronx is manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s state-of-the-art facility in Gujarat.
The first batch of over 1,600 vehicles bound for Japan was loaded onto a Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) operated by Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK Line) and has been shipped from Pipavav Port in Gujarat.

■Global Automotive Export Dynamics Shift as Indian Auto Industry Rises
The global landscape of automotive exports is undergoing significant changes. Historically, countries like Japan and Thailand have been the primary export hubs for vehicles. However, with the surge in electric vehicle (EV) production, China is now shipping large volumes of competitively priced EVs to Europe. Should India, with its status as the world’s most populous country, increase its vehicle exports, the global automotive trade could see a substantial shift.
The award-winning Fronx is the second model to be exported from Maruti Suzuki to Japan, following the Baleno in 2016. The Fronx, manufactured by Maruti Suzuki’s parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporation, is slated for release in Japan in the autumn of 2024. This historic milestone underscores the growing strength and global reach of India’s manufacturing sector.

■Maruti Suzuki’s Export Performance
In the 2023-24 financial year, Maruti Suzuki shipped over 2.8 million vehicles to more than 100 countries, capturing a 42% share of passenger car exports from India. In the first quarter of the 2024-25 financial year, the company achieved its highest-ever export volume for the first quarter, with 70,560 units shipped.

The Fronx, globally unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo, was launched in India on 24 April 2023. The SUV stands out for its modern design, dynamic performance, and technology-rich premium character. It quickly won the hearts of Indian consumers, becoming the first model in India to sell 1,000 units within ten months of its launch. In July 2023, Maruti Suzuki began exporting the Fronx to markets in Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa. Since its release, the Fronx has recorded cumulative sales of of over 2,000 units in both domestic and export markets.

世界の自動車の輸出荷動きは近年、変化しつつある。かつては、日本、タイが自動車の輸出基地だったが、EV（電気自動車）を増産し、価格の安い中国製のEVが欧州に大量に出荷されている。
今後、世界第一位の人口を持つインドから自動車の輸出が増加した場合、世界の自動車荷動きは大きく変化するだろう。
受賞歴のあるFronxは、2016年のBalenoに続き、マルチ・スズキから日本に輸出される2番目のモデルである。フロンクス（Fronx）は、マルチ・スズキの親会社であるスズキ株式会社によって、2024年秋に日本で発売される予定である。この歴史的な節目は、インドの製造業がますます力をつけ、世界に進出していることを象徴している。

マルチ・スズキは2023-24年度に100カ国以上に280万台以上を出荷した。同社はインドからの乗用車輸出において42%のシェアを占めている。マルチ・スズキの2024-25年度第1四半期の輸出台数は70,560台で、同社の第1四半期としては過去最高となった。
