The former Capital Product Partners has rebranded to highlight its focus on clean energy transport. Capital Product Partners, a Greek shipowner primarily engaged in owning LNG (liquefied natural gas) carriers, announced on 26th August that it would change its name to Capital Clean Energy Carriers Corp. Regarding the name change, the company stated：
“We have already made significant progress in refocusing our business, including the sale of seven legacy container ships in the first half of 2024. Once the remaining energy transition vessels are delivered between Q1 2026 and Q3 2027, we will become the largest U.S.-listed LNG shipping company, offering diverse transportation solutions to our industrial customers.”

Capital Clean Energy Carriers Corp was listed on the NASDAQ market in the United States in 2007. As of June 2024, the company owns a fleet of 20 vessels, including 12 state-of-the-art LNG carriers and eight large container ships. It also has 16 new vessels on order, including six LNG carriers and six mid-sized LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) carriers scheduled for delivery in 2026-2027, as well as four CO2 carriers.
■Capital Clean Energy Carriers Pursues Strategic Shift to LNG-Centric Energy Business
To achieve a strategic shift towards an energy business focused on LNG, Capital Clean Energy Carriers signed a contract in November 2023 to acquire 11 new LNG carriers, five of which are already in operation. The remaining six vessels are scheduled for delivery between the first quarter of 2026 and the first quarter of 2027. In June 2024, the company also placed an order for 10 gas carriers equipped with the latest technology, including four multi-purpose gas carriers capable of transporting liquid CO2. This $390 million investment in energy transition vessels and new LNG carriers underscores the company’s commitment to becoming a leading provider in the transportation of LNG and other clean fuels.
The company’s CEO, Mr. Jerry Kalogiratos, commented: “This announcement marks a significant step in our growth and evolution. While we have already established a strong presence in LNG transportation, the addition of new vessels will enable us to transport LPG, ammonia, butane, propylene, and liquid CO2. We believe this transformation will attract institutional investors’ interest, expanding our investor base and enhancing trading liquidity.”
■Strong Ties with Japanese Financial Institutions
Capital Clean Energy Carriers also maintain strong ties with Japanese financial institutions. On 16th July 2024, SBI Leasing Services, part of the major financial group SBI Holdings (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo), announced it had signed a lease agreement with Capital Clean Energy Carriers for an LNG carrier, in collaboration with BNP Paribas, a French bank with which it partners in the maritime sector. The lease agreement involves a new LNG vessel, the “APOSTOLOS,” completed in June 2024, under a JOLCO (Japanese Operating Lease with Call Option) structure. The vessel is set to be chartered long-term to a Japanese company.
SBI Leasing had previously formed a JOLCO for another new LNG ship, the “ASSOS,” completed in May 2024, also for Capital Clean Energy Carriers, making this the second such agreement.

「当社は既に、2024年上半期中に7隻のレガシーコンテナ船を売却するなど、事業の再フォーカスにおいて大きな進展を遂げている。残りのエネルギー転換船が2026年第1四半期から2027年第3四半期までに納入されると、当社は米国上場のLNG輸送会社として最大規模になり、産業顧客に対して多様な輸送ソリューションを提供できるようになる」
Capital Clean Energy Carriers Corpは2007年に米ナスダック市場に上場し、２０２４年6月時点で最新鋭のLNG船12隻、大型コンテナ船8隻の計20隻を保有している。新造船は26―27年竣工予定のLNG船6隻、中型LPG（液化石油ガス）船6隻、CO2（二酸化炭素）運搬船4隻の計16隻を確保している。
Capital Clean Energy CarriersはLNGを中心としたエネルギービジネスへの戦略的シフトを達成するために、2023年11月に新造LNGキャリア11隻を取得する契約を締結し、そのうち5隻は既に運航している。残りの6隻は2026年第1四半期から2027年第1四半期の間に納入される予定である。2024年6月には最新技術を搭載したガス運搬船10隻の発注も行い、これには液体CO2を輸送できる4隻の多用途ガス運搬船が含まれる。これらのエネルギー転換船と新造LNGキャリアを合わせた3.9億ドルの投資は、LNGおよび他のクリーン燃料の輸送においてリーディングプロバイダーになるという当社のコミットメントを示している。

Capital Clean Energy Carriersは日本の金融機関との結びつきも強い。
金融大手SBIグループのSBIリーシングサービス（本社・東京都港区）は２０２４年７月16日、船舶分野で提携する仏BNPパリバ銀行と協力し、Capital Clean Energy CarriersとLNGキャリアのリース契約を締結したと発表した。２０２４年6月竣工の新造LNG船「APOSTOLOS」を対象にJOLCO（購入選択権付き日本型オペレーティングリース、）を組成する。同船は日本企業に長期にわたり定期貸船される予定。
SBIリーシングは5月にもCapital Clean Energy Carriers向けに新造LNG船「ASSOS」（２０２４年5月竣工）のJOLCOを組成しており、今回が2隻目となる。
