ENEOS Renewable Energy (ERE) will participate in Norway’s GoliatVIND floating offshore wind project by acquiring a 20% stake from Odfjell Oceanwind.
Odfjell Oceanwind, headquartered in Norway, has announced that Japan’s renewable energy company, ENEOS Renewable Energy (ERE), will join the GoliatVIND floating offshore wind project, which is currently under development off the coast of Norway. ERE will acquire a 20% stake in the project from Odfjell Oceanwind, which holds shares in the GoliatVIND operating company. As a result of ERE’s participation, the new shareholder structure of GoliatVIND will comprise Source Galileo Norge (40%), Odfjell Oceanwind (20%), Kansai Electric Power (20%), and ERE (20%).
In October 2023, Japanese shipping company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) decided to invest in Odfjell Oceanwind. MOL and Odfjell Oceanwind have signed a shareholder allocation agreement, making MOL a strategic shareholder in Odfjell Oceanwind.

■ENEOS Renewable Energy Acquires 20% Stake in GoliatVIND Project
ENEOS Renewable Energy (ERE) will acquire a 20% equity stake from Odfjell Oceanwind, securing a 20% share in the GoliatVIND project. ERE is the renewable energy arm of Japan’s energy giant ENEOS Holdings, Inc. (formerly JXTG Holdings, Inc.).
GoliatVIND is a 75 MW (5 x 15MW) floating offshore wind demonstration project, equipped with a grid connection to the Hammerfest region through the Goliat FPSO. The project is located at a site 400 meters deep, at the boundary between the Norwegian Sea and the Barents Sea, and uses Odfjell Oceanwind’s Deepsea Star™ semi-submersible platform technology. The project leverages a supply chain that Odfjell Oceanwind has developed over many years. Earlier this year, GoliatVIND received a NOK 2 billion (USD 185 million) grant from the Norwegian state enterprise ENOVA SF as part of a program aimed at reducing costs and demonstrating the viability of floating offshore wind.

■Overview of the GoliatVIND Project
―The power plant will be connected to the grid via the Goliat FPSO, which is already supplied with electricity through a 110kV high-voltage cable from onshore.
―This cable has a capacity of 75 MW, which matches the planned capacity of GoliatVIND. It will add approximately 320 GWh of energy to the Hammerfest region in an average year.
―Currently, five floating wind turbines, each with a capacity of 15 MW, are planned for the project.
―The site is located at 71°N latitude, about 95 km northwest of Hammerfest, at a depth of 300-400 meters. The floating wind turbines will be installed 5-11 kilometers away from the Goliat platform. The positioning of the turbines in the GoliatVIND offshore wind farm was decided after consultations with local fishing communities.
―This location offers ideal conditions for Odfjell Oceanwind’s Deepsea Star™ floating wind platform technology.
―The power plant is scheduled to begin operations in 2028, pending the approval process from Norway’s Ministry of Petroleum and Energy. The experience gained from this project will contribute to future floating offshore wind investments in Norway, including Utsira Nord.
■MOL has invested in Odfjell Oceanwind
In October 2023, MOL announced its investment in Odfjell Oceanwind. At the time, MOL commented on the investment as follows: “We are delighted to join Odfjell Oceanwind, a company with a wealth of experience and background in challenging marine environments through Odfjell Drilling and Odfjell Technology. This investment represents an important partnership in line with the strategies of both companies. Odfjell Oceanwind aims to become a leader in floating offshore wind power. As a shipping company, MOL will leverage its knowledge and expertise to contribute to the further development of Odfjell Oceanwind as a partner.”

Odfjell Oceanwind is a Norwegian company specializing in floating offshore wind power. It combines 50 years of tradition from Odfjell’s shipping operations, expertise in designing, constructing, and operating floating structures for harsh marine environments, and 20 years of OceanWind’s experience in developing floating offshore wind power. The company was established to promote floating offshore wind projects, such as the decarbonization and electrification of Norway’s oil and gas facilities. ■GoliatVINDの概況
―発電所は、既に陸上から110kVの高圧ケーブルで電力が供給されているGoliat FPSOを通じて電力網に接続される。
―このケーブルは75 MWの容量を持ち、GoliatVINDは同じ容量で計画されている。これは、平均的な年で約320 GWhのエネルギーをハンメルフェスト地域に追加することになる。
―現在、各15 MWの浮体式風力タービン5基が計画されている。
―この地域は北緯71度に位置し、ハンメルフェストから北西に約95 km、深さ3-400メートルの場所にある。浮体式風力タービンは、Goliatプラットフォームから5-11キロメートル離れた場所に設置される予定である。GoliatVINDの洋上風力発電所における風力タービンの配置は、漁業関係者との対話を経て決定された。
―この場所は、Odfjell Oceanwindの浮体式風力基礎技術Deepsea Star™の設計に理想的な条件を備えている。
―発電所は2028年に稼働予定で、石油・エネルギー省による認可プロセスの進行に依存している。このようにして得られた経験は、Utsira Nordを含むノルウェーの将来の浮体式洋上風力投資に活用される。
商船三井は２０２３年１０月にOdfjell Oceanwindに出資することを発表した。商船三井はOdfjell Oceanwindへの出資について当時の以下のように説明している「Odfjell Drilling, Odfjell Technologyといった過酷な海域での多様な経験・バックグラウンドを持つOdfjell Oceanwind社に参画出来たことを非常に嬉しく思う。今回の出資は、両社の戦略に沿った重要なパートナーシップだと考えている。Odfjell Oceanwindは浮体式洋上風力におけるリーディングカンパニーとなることを目指している。商船三井は海運会社としての知見・経験を大いに活かし、Odfjell Oceanwindのパートナーとして、同社の更なる発展の為にて貢献していく」
