Malaysian shipping company MISC, a subsidiary of the national oil and gas company Petronas (Petroliam Nasional Berhad), announced on October 1, 2024, that it has placed an order for two LNG (liquefied natural gas) carriers with Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea. Upon delivery, the two vessels will be employed under a long-term charter agreement with Petronas and will be dedicated to transporting the company’s LNG. MISC also revealed that it has agreed with Petronas to terminate the existing time charter contracts for three steam turbine-powered LNG vessels.

MISC expects to take delivery of the two LNG carriers from Samsung Heavy Industries in 2027. Details such as the specifications of the vessels have not yet been disclosed. The two vessels will be deployed under a 15-year time charter contract with a Petronas subsidiary, and they will be engaged in transporting LNG produced by Petronas.
In addition, MISC and the Petronas subsidiary have agreed to an early termination of the time charter contracts for three steam turbine LNG vessels: *SERI AYU*, *SERI ANGKASA*, and *SERI Begawan*. The contracts, which would have reached 20 years of duration between 2027 and 2028, will be concluded earlier, and MISC will receive compensation for the early termination.
Moreover, MISC and the Petronas subsidiary have agreed to extend the time charter contracts for two LNG vessels, *SERI ALAM* and *SERI AMANAH*, whose current contracts are set to expire in 2025 and 2026, respectively. The contracts for these vessels will now be extended until the end of March 2028.
〆ＭＩＳＣ、ＬＮＧ船２隻発注、タービン船３隻は解約
マレーシアの国営石油・ガス会社ペトロナスグループ(Petroliam Nasional Berhad)
の海運会社ＭＩＳＣは２０２４年１０月１日、ＬＮＧ（液化天然ガス）船２隻を韓国・サムスン重工業に発注したと発表した。２隻は竣工後、ペトロナスと長期契約を結び、同社のLNG輸送に配船される。ＭＩＳＣは蒸気タービン機関を搭載したＬＮＧ船３隻の定期用船契約の中途解約し、ペトロナスと合意したことも明らかにした。
