The Meiji Shipping Group has announced that its consolidated subsidiary in Panama will acquire two LNG (liquefied natural gas) fueled car carriers from Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL). It has not been disclosed whether these vessels are newly built or pre-existing. The reason for the acquisition, according to Meiji Shipping Group, is to “strengthen the business foundation by expanding the fleet.” The group plans to acquire the two LNG-fueled car carriers between July and December 2026. The acquisition price has also not been disclosed.

The Meiji Shipping Group centered around Meiji Shipping, which primarily engages in ship ownership, and also handles ship management.
According to the company’s website, Meiji Shipping owns a wide range of vessels, including LNG tankers, large crude oil tankers, petrochemical tankers, LPG tankers, chemical tankers, methanol tankers, car carriers, large container ships, wood chip carriers, and bulk carriers.
These vessels are operated under medium- and long-term charter agreements with prominent domestic and international shipping companies and major oil companies, maintaining a fleet of around 70 vessels. Meiji Shipping Group has also established bases in Singapore and the Netherlands, with more than half of its ship ownership personnel stationed overseas, actively engaging in international markets.

明海グループ(Meiji Shipping Group)は、パナマの連結子会社が商船三井からLNG(液化天然ガス)燃料自動車船2隻を取得すると発表した。新造船か既存船かは明らかにされていない。明海グループは取得理由として「船隊拡充による営業基盤強化のため」と説明している。明海グループはLNG燃料自動車船2隻を2026年7月から12月にかけて取得する予定だ。取得価額なども明らかにされていない。
